Premier Has Gone Green!
Premier Green Certified Homes have not only changed how we build but also how Premier Homeowners live.
The Truth About Green Building
There are still those consumers out there that believe that Green Building is smoke and mirrors or just a new marketing tool for builders. However Green Building is a stringent multi-step process that is here to stay in New Construction. Green Building will distinguish your home from any non-certified green home and becomes an added value to most families' largest investment. Premier Construction is not just changing the light bulbs and calling it green instead we are looking at every step of the home building process to ensure that we build an energy efficient home at a price that gives almost any buyer the opportunity to own a Premier Green Certified Home.
In today's world of energy efficient homes there are four different standards that a builder may attempt to achieve. The most well known is LEED certification which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design which is a National Program under the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council). The next most well known is Energy Star Qualification which is also a National Program that was developed by the U.S. Department of Energy. Next in line is FGBC (Florida Green Building Coalition) which is a State Program that distinguishes between the regions of Florida. Finally the newest green certification program is NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Green Certification. It is key when buying an energy efficient home that your builder provide you with one or more of the four Certifications / Qualifications of green building or energy efficiency. (Certification – LEED, FGBC, & NAHB "Green" / Qualification – Energy Star "Energy Efficient")
In all four types of Certification/Qualification a builder must use a third party to certify or qualify their homes. Premier Construction has contracted CGBG (Capital Green Building Group), who are able to perform all four categories of certification/qualification. CGBG comes to a Premier Green Certified Home at multiple stages of the building process to validate products and techniques being implemented in the construction process. Only once everything is validated and checked only then does CGBG submit the application to the organization whether that is FGBC, Energy Star, etc. If the organization accepts CGBG 's scoring of the home only then does the home become a Premier Green Certified Home.
Premier Green Certified Homes
Premier Construction has reviewed all four forms of certification/qualification for their homes and has chosen two designations as most valuable to our homeowners, FGBC and Energy Star. While LEED and NAHB are very reputable and excellent processes themselves, however there are greater benefits to using Energy Star and FGBC for the homeowner. The main benefit of using Energy Star is the focus on the energy efficiency of the home as opposed to the other three programs that focus on a wider basis of the construction process. Energy Star qualification is obtained through Low-E Windows, Energy Star Appliances, Energy Star Lighting Packages, Air Conditioning units that have higher SEER Ratings, and the overall seal of the home from the outside climate.
The reasoning behind Premier Construction using Florida Green Building Coalition's Green Certification is due the system being designed for the different regions and in result the different climates of Florida. Green Certification is different from Energy Star in that the procedure encompasses all aspects of the building process from recycled materials used, waste management procedures, water consumption, Functionality of the home, Durability of products used in the home, as well as energy efficient products. The process is changing the way homes are being designed and constructed. One of the largest and most effective components to owning a green home is not only knowledge of what is green fluff and what is Green Certification but understanding how to use the products and the design of your Premier Green Certified Home to the best of it's abilities. With the purchase of a Green Certified Home the Home Owner is walked through the home and given details on the green products used in construction and how they can use them to their highest use.
